One nice thing (or maybe it’s a bad thing as well?) about freelancing is that you end up having lots of free time at some random point. Of course, you can make use of it by staying indoors and sleeping off this ungodly heat, or do something else. For my part, I found myself catching up with tv series i wishlisted to see.
So I’ve been watching some delightfully macabre series for the past few days, not to mention finally getting updated with my current obsession, Game of Thrones (like the rest of mankind) and well, with the rainy cold weather here in the province, it’s frightfully fun.
Penny Dreadful is a showtime series which follows a motley crew of characters based on some very famous figures in the literary world (Frankenstein, Dracula’s Mina, etc.) as they explore the seedy underside of London during the time of Jack the Ripper. It’s fascinating how the story unfolds and while they don’t follow the literary narrative of the books, they were able to weave in the supernatural into the mechanical development of the century. Of course, the cast has also got me hooked — Josh Hartnett, Eva Green and Timothy Dalton are just some of the amazing actors that star in this series.
Another Interesting series i’ve started following is BBC’s In the Flesh . A Zombie drama (yup), it reminds me of the Walking Dead, only instead of people killing zombies off, the zombies get treatment and are re-introduced into society as “rehabilitated” members. It follows a young man who’s been recently de-zombified and given back to his family, and how he and his family deals with him, the situation and trying to go back to “normal life”. Of course, with human nature and all that, there are problems bound to happen.
Blood, drama, supernatural and zombies. What’s not to like?
