Tokyo-based Koshi Kawachi is a prolific artist whose art seems to know no boundaries. Ok, i can’t read japanese but i read about him through Pinktentacle.com ‘s article. It’s amazing how his art not only reflects his versatility but also his resourcefulness, not to mention a love for nature. This is his exhibit “Manga Farming“, an installation at the Matsuzakaya department store in Nagoya.
I think this truly exemplifies an artist whose work not only adheres to the “austerity” of art (i.e., it has to be reflective of the artist’s emotions, etc. etc.) but also effects an immediate impact on its audience. Most artists have a reflective output on how they feel but don’t necessarily produce something that is both beautiful AND good for the people who view their work. It’s a wonderful use of old manga and an opportunity to show how life can begin, even from something old — something old becomes something new, indeed!
